Buruj Quran (burujquran.com) is a free, non-commercial website with no advertising. It is run by a private individual. In this policy, “we” means the person who runs the site.
Buruj Quran uses the Quran Foundation's APIs (the service it offers to developers) for the meaning of each Arabic word, and for the timings that light up each word as it is recited. The Quran Foundation also runs Quran.com and QuranReflect. Buruj Quran is independent: it is not an official product of the Quran Foundation, Quran.com or QuranReflect. The site does not use Quran Foundation sign-in, so it never sees your Quran.com or QuranReflect account.
The Quran text, translations and word meanings are public material. They reach your device as files from burujquran.com itself, and fetching them collects nothing about you.
To make the site easier to use, your browser keeps a few things in its own storage on your device:
None of this is sent to us, and none of it is a cookie. To delete it all, clear this site's data in your browser's settings.
When you open a page, your device sends a request, as it does for any website. The request includes your IP address (the internet address of your connection) and basic details such as your browser type. Four services handle these requests:
What it receives: your IP address and browser details. Web Analytics uses no cookies and does not identify you; we see only totals, such as visits per page and per country.
Its policy: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
What it receives: your IP address and browser details when the fonts load.
Its policy: policies.google.com/privacy and developers.google.com/fonts/faq/privacy
What it receives: your IP address and browser details, only when you press play.
Its policy: QuranicAudio is run by Quran.com. Its privacy policy is written for its phone app: quranicaudio.com/privacy.html
What it receives: your IP address and browser details, only when you press play.
Its policy: Islamic Network publishes terms but no privacy policy: islamic.network/terms-and-conditions.html
Cloudflare handles this information for us under its Data Processing Addendum. The QuranicAudio recordings and their timings are listed by the Quran Foundation's developer service, which the site uses under its Developer Terms. Google Fonts and Islamic Network are free public services; we have no separate agreement with them.
We do not keep our own records of individual visitors. If you follow a link to another website, for example from the Sources page, that website's own policy applies.
Notes and reflections about the Quran can reveal a person's religious beliefs, which many privacy laws treat as sensitive. Today the site stores none of this on its servers: your notes, bookmarks and progress stay on your device.
Community, where readers will be able to share reflections, is not open yet. Before it opens, we will add to this policy exactly what it collects, why, and for how long, and change the date at the top. Posting a reflection will need your separate, clear agreement, given by ticking a box that is not ticked for you.
We keep information only as long as it is needed. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to answer you. Cloudflare and Google keep their own technical records for the periods set out in their policies.
Reading Buruj Quran needs no account and collects nothing about you, so the site is for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. When accounts arrive (for Community), they will be for people aged 13 and over: sign-ups from younger children will be refused, and anything collected from them by mistake will be deleted. Parents are welcome to read and listen together with their children.
The services above work around the world, so your request may be handled outside your own country. Cloudflare's Data Processing Addendum includes the European Union's Standard Contractual Clauses for such transfers. We follow the data protection laws that apply to us.
If we make an important change, we will show a notice on the home page for at least 30 days and change the date at the top.
